In an unprecedented event, President Yoweri Museveni is set to deliver a monumental public lecture on wealth creation, targeting mostly youths from the districts that make up the Bugisu sub-region.

This significant event which marks almost 17 years since the President’s first-ever public discourse on this pivotal topic is scheduled for September 12, 2024, at the Mbale SS Playground, in Mbale City.

This lecture, according to the organizers promises to be a defining moment for the youths of Bugisu and the broader eastern region. The anticipation among the youth has been palpable for years, and now, with divine providence, the much-awaited opportunity has arrived.

Mr Chris Buyela, the Office of the National Chairman Coordinator for Bugisu Region who is at the forefront of this function says the event is more than a lecture; it is a lifetime opportunity for the Bazukulu (grandchildren) of Bugisu to engage directly with the President Museveni, a leader whose vision and policies have shaped modern Uganda.

Agricultural Excellence and Cultural Heritage;- According to Buyela, the Bugisu sub-region, renowned for its agricultural prowess, stands as a beacon of productivity and cultural richness, boasting some of the most fertile soils in Uganda, which make it an agricultural heartland. Its principal cash crop, Arabica coffee, is internationally acclaimed for its superior quality, placing Bugisu on the global coffee map.

“Moreover, the region is not just rich in natural resources but also in cultural heritage. The Bamasaba people, known for their unique and vibrant culture, celebrate the Imbalu initiation ceremony, a rite that draws visitors from around the globe,” Buyela says, adding that this cultural festivity not only preserves the traditions of the Bamasaba but also promotes tourism and cultural exchange, adding another layer to the socio-economic fabric of Bugisu.

A Golden Opportunity; Buyela also underscores that this public lecture by President Museveni is a golden opportunity for Bugisu’s youth to gain insights into wealth creation directly from a leader who has long championed economic empowerment and development.

“The event is expected to address various aspects of economic growth, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development, tailored specifically to the unique strengths and potentials of the Bugisu sub-region,” he emphasizes.

And as the region prepares to welcome President Museveni, Buyela called upon all residents, especially the youth to attend this wonderful symposium and participate actively.

“This is not just a lecture; it is a platform for learning, inspiration, and direct engagement with the highest office in the land. It is a moment for the youth to glean wisdom, ask pertinent questions, and envision their role in the future development of Bugisu and Uganda at large.”

He adds; “Ladies and gentlemen, let us seize this remarkable opportunity. Join us on September 12, 2024, at the Mbale Playground as we witness and partake in a historic event that promises to ignite a new era of prosperity and growth for the Bugisu sub-region.”
