URA releases list of licensed clearing agents for 2019

Uganda Revenue Authority has released a list of licensed clearing companies and authorized declarants for 2019.

This follows reports that unscrupulous brokers/middlemen who have in the past posed as clearing agents fleeced importers and exporters.

“Pursuant to section 145 of the East African Community Customs management Act, the commissioner of customs has licensed the following companies and their respective declarants to work as customs agents for the year 2019,” Commissioner Customs, Dicksons C. Kateshumbwa said in a statement released on Thursday.

There are over 300 licensed companies.

“The general public, particularly the business community is urged not to deal with any person purporting to be agent if he or she is not licensed.”
