TeensAndTax is up and running at Maryhill High school & Ntare School in the Post Primary Schools National Music Dance and Drama festival, 2017.

Various secondary schools students from all regions of Uganda and a few from Kenya have converged at Ntare School, Mbarara High School and Maryhill High School in Mbarara district to vie for this year’s crown.

The festival is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Sports sponsored by URA and UNICEF. Kicking off the competitions, the Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary , Alex Kakooza noted that the Ministry attaches great importance to availing opportunities to each and every child to nurture his or her talent through co-curricular activities like Music Dance and Drama.

“MDD enables us to pass on important messages to the country and through this, we nurture the young into functional citizens. This is a responsibility of all stakeholders especially the school system” , remarked Alex Kakooza.

In this year’s competition themed Vision 2040; ” Harnessing Young people’s young potential for Uganda’s social-economic transformation” , the students are tackling two essential issues.

These include the role of Taxation in national development through poetry and better menstrual health management as a catalyst for ensuring the girl child education through speeches.

In a bid to ensure Uganda’s growth towards middle income status, URA is on a mission to cultivate a tax paying culture among Ugandans through excellent revenue services , quality people and building stakeholder partnerships.

Through partnering with the Ministry of Education and Sports in this Music Dance and Drama festival, we have opened the students up to a world of tax education setting them onto a lifetime journey as tax compliant citizens of Uganda.

The week-long festival will come to a close on Sunday afternoon where winners will be crowned and rewarded with scholastic materials among other items provided by URA.

“We are keen about inspiring students to pursue their education unswervingly to give themselves a chance at a bright future” noted David Rusoke , Ag URA Domestic Taxes Regional Manager, Western.

He further said that an empowered citizenry that is gainfully employed will result into a citizenry that is fully capable of contributing significantly towards Uganda’s growth.
