Museveni using security agencies to eliminate opposition – FDC’s Ssemujju Nganda

Forum for Democratic Change has said President Museveni’s project to eliminate opposition ahead of 2021 will be fulfilled by help of the police and army.

According to the opposition party’s spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, when Museveni said that by the year 2021 there will no sensible opposition, he thought that the President was to use his party manifesto to persuade members of the opposition to join him.

However, he has come to know that even physical elimination with help of security agencies may be used to the hardened and incorruptible opposition leaders.

“We had maybe as a party taken lightly Museveni’s statements that there will be no opposition by 2021. We did not know that he will also start to physically to eliminate leaders so that he can impact fear in their supporters,” Nganda said at a press conference on Monday at party’s headquarters.

The opposition chief whip’s statements follow the brutality and terror unleashed by Uganda Police against FDC on November 4 in Kireka and November 6 at their headquarters.

According to Nganda, since it’s now Museveni’s style to eliminate, the opposition by the help of security agencies, the FDC party has summoned an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) session this Friday, November 15 to decide on their next action.  NEC, comprising 86 representatives, will be chaired by the party President Eng. Hon. Patrick Amuriat.

“Police targeted and nearly killed our founding President Col. Dr Kizza Besigye while illegally and violently dispersing FDC lawful and peaceful seminar at Mandela National Stadium on November 4th. Yet we had complied with all legal requirements to host the seminar. We wrote to the Inspector General of Police on October 14, more than two weeks before the seminar. We paid Namboole Stadium and other service providers but still, police attacked us,” said Nganda.

He added that All the Police officers who were involved in this violence have properly been identified and the party will decide what to do with them on Friday.

“Those who sprayed FDC women league leaders with poisonous chemicals on Wednesday, November 6, have also been properly identified. We will decide what to do with them on Friday.

But even as we wait to decide against these individual police officers and their commanders, we strongly condemn the brutality and terror that Police and the military have unleashed onto Makerere University students, journalists and other citizens in the last couple of weeks,” he added.
