Kabale District Health office this week released a new HIV report that shows that 90 per cent of the people who tested in a period of five months; between October 2018 and March 2019 were found HIV/AIDS Positive.
The report was released by the Kabale District Health Educator Alfred Besigensi during a sensitization workshop for Sub County leaders of people living with HIV/AIDS in the district.
The workshop was organized by USAID Rhites South West in partnership with Mayanja memorial hospital in Mbarara.
The report indicated that of the 9,431 people screened at various health facilities and health camps in Kabale district between October 2018 and March 2019, 8490 tested HIV positive.
It also showed that of the 8,490 that tested positive, 8485 are currently on ARVs and five declined to start medication.
While Closing the workshop, the Kabale district LCV Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa decried the continued spread of HIV/AIDS in the district which he attributed to the emerging cults and religions which have continued to discourage people from testing and starting ARVs assuring them that only prayer cures AIDS.
