Federation of Uganda Football Federations (Fufa) have parted ways with national U-17 and U-20 head coach Kwasi Paa Fabin barely two months since he was appointed.
Kwasi was appointed on March 20, 2019.
According to a statement released by Fufa, the Ghanaian tactician wrote to federation requesting to be relieved of his duties as he returns home to handle family matters that needed urgent attention.
“Fufa is happy with the work done by Kwasi in the period he has been in Uganda,” the statement reads in part.
“However a request by the coach to go and handle family matters back home thus not able to continue with the job, saw the Executive consent to his request. Fufa wishes Kwesi all the best in his future endeavors. It is Our Game, It is Our Country”.
Kwasi was initially appointed to take over the youth sides on a one year long employment contract with an option of extension if he fulfills the set objectives.
He was tasked with helping the U-17 side gain qualification to the U-17 World Cup in Brazil and it could be fulfilled if the side were to qualify for the knock out phase of the U-17 AFCON tournament that was played in Tanzania in April this year.
Kwasi’s appointment came as a surprise to many and it caused quite a stir among football circles as many believed that a local coach should be the ideal candidate to handle the youth set-up .
And sources inside Fufa house indicate that the Ghanaian’s failure to qualify for the World cup could have been the major factor behind the termination of his employment contract.
His assistants Jackson Magera, Hamza Lutalo and goal keeping coach Mubarak Kiberu will handle both the U-17 and U-20 sides as FUFA look for a replacement
Kwasi replaced BUL FC coach Peter Onen and Cranes assistant coach Matia Lule who handled both teams before he came in. His last appearance was at the just concluded Copa Coca Cola U-20 schools championships in Jinja where he worked as a scout.
Kwasi is a former head coach for the Ghana U-17 national team. He also handled the Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko, Porcupine Warriors, Heart of Lions, Inter Allies and Hearts of Oak.
