The Mityana Resident District Commissioner has accused the district General Hospital staff of theft.
Speaking to the media on Sunday in Mityana town, Captain Yahaya Kakooza said that he received information about the disappearance of a records computer from the hospital worth Shs15 million. He said it was stolen on Good Friday and the hospital administrators hid the information from the responsible authorities.
Kakooza revealed that the staff could have a hand in this theft since whoever enters in records room has to place his/her finger on a bio-metric machine; entrance was thus reserved for the staff.
The RDC concluded that the computer was stolen by the hospital staff and that they used the hospital vehicle to take the machine out of the premises.
He added that they were going to investigate hospital workers since they are first suspects in the case.
Kakooza further advised that each vehicle that gets out of the hospital should be checked and CCTV cameras should be installed in the health facility for security purposes.
Last year in July, a number of computers, microscopes, solar batteries and the CD4 Machine deviously went missing from the hospital but none of the equipment were recovered up to date.
On the other hand, Chairman Mityana Central Division Fred Wotonova commenting on the matter said it was a big shock that the computer that keeps records was stolen which would hinder effectiveness of the hospital.
