The inaugural Africa Now Conference, slated for March 12-13, 2019 in Kampala, has received a major endorsement from the government.
This after the Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda wrote a letter to all ministers and their permanent secretaries, inviting them to attend the Summit to be held at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort & Conference Centre to be held under the theme ‘Towards a secure, Integrated and growing Africa.’
It is organised by Africa Strategic Leadership Centre (ASLC).
“His Excellency, Yoweri Museveni in conjunction with the Africa Strategic Leadership Centre is convening the inaugural Africa Now Conference,” reads part of the letter dated February 4, also copied to heads of various public bodies.
“H.E, the President will be hosting four African Heads of State, distinguished ministers from several partner African States, African Union Commissioners, foreign investors, CEOs of African and Multinational companies, youth leaders and prominent civil society organisations.”
“This is therefore invite you to attend and maximally participate in the furtherance of the success of this important event. By copy of this letter, all the copied persons are highly invited and encouraged to participate positively both in preparation and running of the said event.”
Eight African heads of state are expected to attend the highly anticipated meeting, which was launched on Tuesday, February 12, by Dr Robert Mwesigwa, board chairman, ASLC.
It aims at harnessing the interminable energy of the Africa’s human potential in forging a secure, integrated and growing Africa and will be co-chaired by President Museveni alongside other eminent government leaders.
Dr Mwesigwa said participants will discuss how to drive Africa’s integration agenda forward using political and economic transformation as tools to safeguard the future of Africa.
He added, “Most importantly, the Summit will facilitate policy dialogue, foster public-private partnerships and assist in the mobilization of resources required to advance Africa’s socio-economic prosperity.”
It will be held every two years.
Moving forward, Dr. Mwesigwa added that “more than ever, a bold vision is now needed to drive Africa’s transformation and future forward. The Africa Now Conference will be a forum for policy dialogue, extensive public-private partnership and mobilization of resources required to advance Africa’s socio-economic and political prosperity.
