Flights out of Entebbe cancelled after plane skids off runway

According to the Airlines management, after the incident, passengers and crew were safely deplaned, taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process.

Flights in and out of Entebbe Airport have been cancelled or delayed.

This after a passenger plane – B-737-800 aircraft with registration number ET-ATV – belonging to Ethiopian Airlines skidded off the Entebbe International Airport runway by a few meters while landing on Thursday morning.

The incident that involved a  occurred at around 12:41am on Thursday. It was on a regular scheduled service from Addis Ababa to Entebbe.

According to the Airlines management, after the incident, passengers and crew were safely deplaned, taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular clearance process.

“There is no damage to the aircraft and its being towed to the ramp,” the management said in an official statement.

Adding, “We apologize to our valued customers who were on board the flight for the inconvenience. An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa.”

On the other hand, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that all the 139 passengers and crew on board survived uninjured.

The aviation regulatory body has also noted that the incident has mainly affected inbound international flights.

“The public will be updated on developments in the course of the day, inconveniences caused to the users of Entebbe International Airport are highly regretted,” said CAA in a statement dated January 3, 2019
