Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi on Friday visited the survivors of Bududa landslides, and promised them support.
Accompanied by fellow legislators Winnie Kizza, Gerald Karuhanga, Paul Mwiru, Gafa Mbatekamwa among others, kyagulanyi also criticized the government for late response.
The legislators offered mattresses and other relief items to the survivors and promised them to push for proper understanding of the landslide problem as well as proper planning and subsequent budget allocation to mitigate the disaster.
About 50 people are believed to have perished in landslides that destroyed Bududa after River Suume burst its banks last week.
Bobi Wine’s visit comes hot on the heels of President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to the same affected area last weekend.
The President apologized over his government’s failure to relocate residents from the mudslides prone mountains to safer areas.
According to him, the politicization of the relocation programme delayed the resettlement process.
“Move away from the mountains and conserve nature. The politicization of the relocation programme has been resolved. If politics had not been at the centre, then people would have been resettled in phases,” said Museveni.
