The infamous social media tax took effect on 1 July, 2018 and many Ugandans are not happy with government over the erroneous action.
Many have protested against it and some have opted to use Virtual Private Network (VPN) as a way of dodging the tax.
Meanwhile, a section of law abiding citizens have already started paying the shs200 daily fee via Mobile Money.
However, one of the payers identified as Peter Magelah has demanded for a tax receipt from Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) which he would use when filing for his personal tax returns.
In an email to URA Customer Service said after making a payment via Mobile Money, the transaction did not require a Tax Identification Number (TIN) which meant that there’s no way he could prove that he paid tax.
