Kabale district Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa has been reported to police for assaulting a journalist.
Besigye is alleged to have assaulted Emanuel Arinaitwe Julius, a news reporter of voice of Kigezi radio.
Arinitwe also happens to be the chairperson of Kabale municipality journalists association.
He reported a story on Monday, from a district Council sitting where councilors accused the chairman of involving himself in the embezzling of 40m shillings.
Arinitwe, together with some of his workmates stormed kabale central police station, and reported the chairman for the assault.
According to the chairman, the story intended to tarnish his name and that of the district.
It’s alleged that The chairman was tipped about the story before it was ran on radio, he stormed the radio and stopped it from running.
In the process, the chairman slapped Arinitwe several times and abused him, and still it’s said that he threatened to order for his sacking from his job.
The human rights network Uganda, executive director Robert Ssempala Wednesday condemned the incident.
