On Tuesday online media editors were grilled by detectives at the Crime Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli for allegedly publishing leaked bank account details belonging to former Bank of Uganda Director in charge of supervision Justine Bagyenda.
Four out of the seven summoned editors showed up at the headquarters, recorded statements and released on bond.
Those grilled by detectives included Raymond Wamala, the director of Spy Reports who appeared with his editor, Bob Atwiine, Andrew Irumba of Spy Uganda News, Tadeo Senono of Business Focus and John Njoroge of CEO Magazine.
They were represented by city lawyer Nicholas Opiyo.
According to Daily Monitor, the journalists were charged with three counts of criminal libel, disturbing peace of Bagyenda and computer misuse.
Other summoned journalists who didn’t show up include Richard Wanambwa (Eagle Online), Darius Mugisha (Matooke Republic) and Giles Muhame (ChimpReports).
Last month, Bagyenda dragged the online media houses to CID claiming they published her leaked bank, mobile money details and photographs of her alleged property.
