President Museveni mourns PS Muhakanizi’s mother

President Yoweri Museveni has joined other thousands of mourners to bid farewell to the late Zeridah Kajwengye ,a mother to the Permanent Secretary of ministry of finance and planning, Keith Muhakanizi.

Kajwengye died on Tuesday 15th May 2018 at Nakasero hospital and was buried on Friday at her ancestral home in Kitojo, Bugyera parish in Buyanja sub county Rukungiri district.

According to her brother in –law Nathan Bugari Rwakatogoro , she died at an age of 90 years and has been sick for the last 40 years.

President Yoweri Musevenis’ condolence message was delivered by Tourism Minister, Ephraihim Kamuntu, who said that Museveni was out of the country for other official duties.

“President Yoweri Museveni had loved to be here personally due to the attachment he has in this family but was unable as he was on official duty outside the country. Your president is no longer for Uganda only but also he is needed in other countries that are not politically stable like South Sudan, Somalia, and Central Africa Republican among other countries,” he said.

In his message ,President Yoweri Museveni said that the late Zeridah Kajwengye together with her husband, late Rev. Kosia Kajwengye, late Rev. Semu Ndimbirwe, and Late Rev. Samuel Katugungu pioneered evangelism in Rujumbura that later spread in the whole of East Africa.

He said among the other things on top of revival mission they taught families about cleanliness of their families and personal hygiene, built schools, health centres as well as pioneering best methods of farming in the region.

Late Zeridah Kajwengye survived with 7 children 4 boys and 3 girls and all are still alive only her elder son in law John Kamuhangire the husband to her elder daughter Peninah Kamuhangire died in the morning of Friday the day when his mother in law was being buried.

Keith Muhakanizi said his parents did not get formal education but were very intelligent and were like degree holders. He said his late father was the one who reached primary four but was able to be the head teacher of primary school for many years before joining church ministry.

He added that his mother did not enter in any classroom the only education she got was from mothers’ union but was exemplary leader in their family.

The bishop of North Kigezi diocese, Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi led the service, assisted by the Bishop of West Buganda (greater Masaka) Rt. Rev. Tamale Katumba and many other religious leaders.

Other dignitaries who attended the burial includes state minister for housing, Chris Baryomunsi, Justice Andrew Bashaija, chief of defense forces Gen. David Muhoozi , former ministers Henry Tumukunde, Jim Muhwezi and Vision group managing director Robert Kabushenga , the State Minister of Finance for Planning Hon. David Bahati among the others.
