Businessman and largest property mogul in the country Sudhir Ruparelia has revealed the source of wealth and how he has managed to keep on flourishing irrespective of Uganda’s unstable economy.
While giving a keynote address at the Makerere Business Law Society Annual Dinner that took place at Kampala Serena Hotel on Saturday,Mr. Sudhir said he was born in Katwe Kabanyolo in Kasesebut left Uganda in 1972 for United Kingdom when Former President Idi Amin expelled Asians.
While in the United Kingdom, the Ruparelia Group chairman said he pursued some studies and at the
same time worked as a cab driver in London as well as had a part time job in the accounts department in a mid size enterprise.
“A typical day was a combination of studying and working for up to 16 hours. I was a cab driver in London and had a part time job in the accounts department of a well established mid-size enterprise,” he revealed.
In 1985, he came back to Uganda for a scouting mission.
According to Mr. Sudhir, after making some money in UK, he started a trading business on Kampala Road in December, 1986 with capital of USD 25,000 and since then he has never looked back.
So far his Ruparelia Group is comprised of 14 companies in different sectors such as Real Estate with Meera Investments Limited, Hospitality with Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kabira Country Club, Speke Apartments and others fall, Education with Kampala International, Kampala Parents School , Delhi Public International School and Victoria University, -Insurance with Goldstar Insurance Co. Ltd, Media with Radio Sanyu and agriculture with Rosebud Ltd a floriculture Company.

Ruparelia Group is comprised of 14 Companies in different sectors,” said Mr. Sudhir.
Meanwhile, Sudhir advised the young lawyers to always observe their professional code of conduct, reputation, knowledge and agility. With that, the businessman told them the sky will be the limit.
He further noted that lawyers have many opportunities in future but they (opportunities) demand a shift from old school since business automation with the modern computing power is already providing accurate answers to legal questions.
