Gen Kale Kayihura has deployed one of his most trusted officers to lead the war of words at Police’s door step.
Andrew Felix Kaweesi who has been head of the Human Resources has been appointed the new Uganda Police Public Relations Officer, replacing Fred Enanga who had gone quiet in the past few weeks.
Kaweesi, has been an effective commander in his assignments especially with engagements with opposition activists, given his close understanding of the players in the opposition. Kayihura expects Kaweesi to be the man to step up effort to clean the police tarnished image due to the latest damaging images.
Kaweesi who came to the public eye as commandant of Kampala Metropolitan, has steadily rose through the police ranks but as field commander and administrator.
Although some people might see the spokesman’s position as one below what Kaweesi had been entrusted to, however, knowing the power of the press as the nerve of the public’s perception of the Force, this could be the toughest assignment in police today and Kayihura who has himself tested the media beating, entrusted the toughest job to the person he trusts the most.
Kaweesi has also worked with reporters, photographers and editors in the course of his work and has good rapport with them.
