Kasumba Juma, a 26-year-old father of two from Uganda, is facing execution in Saudi Arabia after being found guilty of carrying illegal drugs. Juma was tricked by a woman named Shamim, who promised to take him on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He was misled into swallowing tablets that he thought were medicine to help him in Saudi Arabia. Unbeknownst to him, these pills contained illegal substances (drugs). Juma was arrested upon arrival at Riyadh airport in October of last year.
In response to this situation, a concerned individual who goes by social media Names of ‘ MP UOT’ tweeted, “I therefore invite all international human rights organizations, @UgandaMFA @hrw @amnesty @PRIinAfrica and @MOISaudiArabia to intervene and stop the execution of Juma, which is scheduled to take place before the end of this month. #StopDeathPenalty #RetweetSaveJumaKasumba.”
Many Ugandans have taken to social media to urge their government, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to address this urgent matter as soon as possible. Juma’s story is a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by those seeking a better life, and the hope for justice and compassion continues to grow.
