In a noteworthy development, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Martin Ochola has praised the High Court Judges for their outstanding performance in delivering verdicts related to the Maria Nagirinya murder case.

The IGP’s commendation comes in response to the judges’ meticulous handling of the high-profile case, reflecting their commitment to upholding justice in a matter that captured the nation’s attention.

The verdicts have been widely regarded as exemplary in addressing the tragic murder of Maria Nagirinya, and Ronald Kitayimbwa has underscored the importance of the judiciary’s role in ensuring accountability and justice in such heinous crimes.

Ochola, whose message was delivered during the press briefing on Monday by the Police Spokesman Fred Enanga commended the High Court Judge Isaac Muwatta for sentencing the murderers of Nagirinya and her driver Kitayimbwa who were murdered on August 28, 2019, following their kidnap in Lungujja.

The key suspect, Compoliyamu Kasolo, was sentenced to life in prison, with an additional 30 years for kidnapping and theft. His associates, Hassan Kisekka, Nasif Kalyango, and Sharif Mpanga, were also sentenced to 30 years joining Isaac Ssenabulya, who admitted to committing the crimes before the trial.

Mr Ochola also extended his appreciation to High Court Judge, Justice Winfred Nabisinde, for sentencing Felista Namaganda to 30 years. Namaganda was found guilty of murdering Isabella Trinity Nakisubbi, and this earned her a life sentence. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

The IGP expressed gratitude to the bereaved families of the deceased, Nagirinya Maria, and Isabella, for their patience and calm during the proceedings, despite the brutal manner in which the victims were murdered. He also thanked the local community for cooperating with the Police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for their professional analysis of testimonies, which contributed to a fair judgment for the grieving families.

In a society where justice is paramount, the commendation of High Court Judges by Mr. Ochola, for their exemplary verdicts in the Nagirinya, Isabella, and Kitayimbwa murder case serves as a significant recognition of their unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The judicious handling of this case also underlines the importance of a fair and impartial judicial system in safeguarding the rights and dignity of every citizen. As the legal proceedings continue to reinforce the values of justice and accountability, the nation remains hopeful that such dedication and integrity will continue to be a cornerstone of the judicial process, ensuring that justice is served for all.
