The Kabale based radio stations have been asked to avoid communicating burial dates when reading death announcements as one way of curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the district.
The order was made by Darius Nandinda, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner who also heads the District COVID-19 taskforce in a document dated 18th June 2021.
Nandinda noted with concern that when the radio stations communicate burial dates while reading death announcements, many people get informed and tend to attend those burial ceremonies hence flouting the Ministry of Health guidelines.
According to the presidential directive, only 20 people in total observance of COVID-19 guidelines are allowed to attend burial ceremonies.
“This is therefore to request you, as usual partners in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic that when reading death announcements, you should avoid mentioning the dates for burial so that the scientific burial directive is implement”, part of the document stated.
Moreso, on Friday June 18th 2021 President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni outlined a number of additional measures aimed at stemming the scourge.
Among them was total ban on transport for passengers be it in private or public means for the next 42 days, reinstated curfew from 7PM to 5:30AM, boda boda cyclists to stop operations at 5PM carrying goods.
