Pilsner Lager, has with effect from Tuesday, November 20 taken over Uganda Premier League Man of the Match awards. The brand, brewed by Uganda Breweries Limited, will also recognise the monthly player and coach with a cash prize of Shs1 million each.
During the announcement of a Shs450million deal at UBL offices in Luzira, Vipers manager Martinez Espinoza and Kirinya Jinja SS striker Joel Madondo scooped October’s accolades along with a cash prize.
Pilsner replaces online betting house Fortebet.
According to Stella Muzito, the head of beer at UBL, the brand wanted to support football.
“We want to support football especially the local league. We all know that the Cranes will represent Uganda at  next year’s Afcon and the squad also comprised locally based players. It was therefore no brainier to that we would partner with the league.”
The Man of the Match in Tuesday’s game between Onduparaka and Ndejje University will be the first beneficiary of Shs100,000.
The Uganda Premier League chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo was full of praise for the new deal, but urged UBL to invest more.
“It’s a huge boost for us honestly, and I urge UBL to bring more because we have more products on the shelf,” Rugyendo said.
