OP-ED: Sectarian talk in Uganda is an indicator of genocide

Asalaam alaikum warahmaturahi wabarakatuh

This goes to all Ugandans.
Fellow Ugandans.

Something must be done, otherwise this is serious.

When Hon Kibuule tragically lost his twins, people danced around their graves. I wrote something to the president warning that Ugandans were turning sadist because of hate and anger. Somebody reacted that “Mr president doesn’t need my advise. Security is guaranteed”.

The other day some saracen askari guarding a supermarket in Nalya shot a one Mugisha who had accidentally scratched somebody’s car with a trolley.

Mugisha was a bit arrogant and the Angoria the askari failed to restrain himself. Today Mugisha is dead and Angoria’s freedom is no more.

My major concern is the debate going around concerning this incident. It is so sad that again as we saw it when Kibuule lost his twins some people are dancing. With bitter statements like; “IT BETTER BE”.

Another statement came from a close relative that; “Arnold was killed because he was a Munyankole”‘. I don’t blame him though because the pain of loosing a son at that tender age can provoke anybody to speak recklessly. However when you analyse this statement, it was as if he was warning other Banyankole to stay alert.

But staying alert against who in their country?. I don’t know what happened , but I think there is a law against sectarianism. That sectarian talk can easily lead to violence. Call me anything but God forbid, this is an indicator of genocide.

I have read several articles and reactions on Facebook on this incident and it has become a tribal confrontation between Ugandan Northerners and Westerners. The other tribes are catalysts “BAWUJA BUNYAMA”, which is so sad.

It started sometime ago with the allegation that Kanyamunyu (a westerner) shot and killed Akena (a notherner). Today it is the other way round. It is alleged that Angoria a Saracen askari (a notherner) shot and killed Mugisha (a westerner).

We all no what happened with the Kanyamunyu/Akena case. Most northerners including their members of parliament were against Kanyamunyu’s bail application. However Kanyamunyu got it to the disappointment of many Northerners. Tho it was his right to get that bail.

Now its time for Angoria to apply for bail. The judiciary is going to be on trial itself. Will the presiding judge deny or accept Angoria’s bail application?. Your guess is as bad or good as mine if it goes either way.

MY PREDICTION

That day when Angoria will apply for bail I see a full court with many northerners behind Angoria and many westerners crying for their own not to see this Askari out. We shall see a bench of lawyers from the north giving Angoria free services. Let me hope the prosecution will not appoint a westerner to prosecute Angoria.

Otherwise that will be a disaster. Fellow Ugandans, this appears like a joke but on a serious note it will be scratching one of the pillars making the state (Judiciary).

We should not shy away from the fact that sectarianism is eating our country. People have started naming themselves and others. Next it will be nicknames like we saw it in Rwanda where others were cockroaches to purge.

When driving a car and there is a need to turn left or right a good driver will switch on the respective indicators. But once the indicators misbehave and turn on themselves as you switch on the wipers, then your car is a DMC.

Today Mr President, the driver of this car called (Uganda) has switched on indicators to fight poverty. But the indicators for ethnic violence have turned on.

UGANDANS HOW DO WE AVOID UGANDA TO GO DMC?.

Food for thought.

Concerned citizen,

Hajj Ashraf Simwogerere.

Asalaam alaikum warahmaturahi wabarakatuh.
