Kampala – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has clarified that Ms. Mercy Timbitwire Bashisha, the woman recently filmed assaulting a traffic police officer, is not an employee of the party. In a statement, the NRM revealed that Ms. Bashisha is neither a Public Relations Officer (PRO) nor a staff member at the NRM Secretariat, contrary to claims made in some media reports.
The NRM expressed concern over the misinformation spreading through outlets like the Daily Monitor and Uganda Radio Network, stating that Ms. Bashisha has never been associated with the party. They called these reports misleading and aimed at tarnishing the party’s reputation.
While condemning Ms. Bashisha’s actions, the NRM praised law enforcement for taking the necessary steps to address the incident. The party urged the public and media to disregard the false claims and to verify facts before publication.
NRM’s legal team is also working with the police to investigate the incident further and may file a formal complaint for impersonation.
