The Nabagereka Development Foundation, spearheaded by the Nabagereka of Buganda, Sylvia Nagginda, continues its mission of reviving cultural values and traditions through its latest initiative, “Obuntu Bulamu” (Humanity). The foundation, established in 2000 to foster the positive cultural values of the Buganda Kingdom, aims to reshape the youth’s engagement with their heritage and promote a sense of humanity among children and youth in Buganda and Uganda at large.
In a strategic move, the Nabagereka has invited State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, to be her Special Guest of honour at the launch of this initiative. The event, slated for November 20, 2024, at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, has garnered much anticipation, with Ms. Barekye confirming her attendance. This partnership highlights the ongoing collaboration between the Buganda Kingdom and the state, as both parties continue to harness culture for peace and development.
In line with these efforts, Ms. Barekye’s leadership in the Industrial Hubs Program further underscores the importance of equipping Uganda’s youth with practical skills for economic empowerment. Under the program, the creation of industrial hubs across the country has offered numerous opportunities for vocational training and skills development. This is particularly significant in addressing unemployment among the youth and enabling them to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s economic growth.
Together, the Nabagereka Foundation’s focus on cultural revitalization and the State House’s Industrial Hubs Program presents a powerful synergy. While the foundation instills values of humanity and respect for tradition, the industrial hubs provide the practical skills that will prepare Uganda’s youth for the modern job market. This partnership promises to uplift a generation, blending cultural pride with economic opportunity, and positioning the youth as custodians of both heritage and innovation.
The collaboration between these two influential entities marks a significant step toward a future where Ugandan youths are empowered, not only by their rich cultural heritage but also through industrial skills and economic self-reliance.
