Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances under which a 28 years old woman was allegedly murdered on allegation that she was a witch.
The deceased was identified as Victoria Baseme 28 years old, a Congolese by Nationality and resident of Buhoma Town council in Kanungu District.
It’s alleged that on Tuesday morning, angry residents of Kacwampare in Buhoma Town council went armed with sticks and invaded the victim while she was in the garden together with her daughter, one Susan Tumushabe planting ground nuts.
She was arrested by the mob, badly assaulted, and she was rescued by some good Samaritans who took her to Bwindi hospital for treatment where she died shortly on arrival.
According to the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Maate,the matter was reported at Bwindi police post by one Nyansio Mbagazihe of Buhoma Town Council,scene was visited, documented, body was taken to the same hospital mortuary for postmortem and efforts to trace for the suspects is ongoing.
