Police in Kabale District have seven sex workers in detention for disobeying lawful orders against staying around bars and continuous getting in touch with truck drivers an act that can easily spread coronavirus.
The sex workers were arrested on Tuesday night at around 11pm at Safe lodge near Bombokya bar and lodges in Kabale township during an operation to fight the spread of coronavurus.
The arrested are susan Ainembabazi,20,Bridget Natukunda 18, Gladys Ayamba 17, Ruth Tugumisirize ,20,Jamira Uwase 24, Brenda Akanyijuka 22, and Happiness Nkabire aged 24.
Truck drivers have been the most affected persons with coronavirus in the country since the outbreak of the deadly pandemic.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest.
He said that the arrested sex workers tend to lure truck drivers who stop in town which poses a risk of contracting the disease.
This Case has been registered at Kabale police station under file number SD 90/14/7/2020 .
