70-year old pygmy woman, ‘witch’ killed as Kigezi murder stats soar

Police in Kisoro district has registered a murder case of a 70-year- old pygmy woman who has been murdered by her husband over unknown reasons.

It’s alleged that on Wednesday, October 30, the suspect identified as Rwamafa Christopher, 60 assaulted to death his wife, Nyiramugisha Janepher at his house  in Kabuga village, Nyakabingo parish, Chahi sub county Kisoro district.

Rwamafa is on the run.

According to the Kigezi Region police Spokesperson Elly Maate, Police visited the scene, before confirming that another case of murder was registered on the same day at Mucha River along Kisoro-Rubuguri road, Nyundo sub county Kisoro district.

The deceased known as Musimenta Alex, 23 years, a son Sebikari John was allegedly assaulted to death and his body dumped in a banana plantation over unknown matters. Four suspects have been arrested over connection to the murder.

These include Hakorimana Silver,22; Turinayo Brian 22; Maniraguha Innocent 15; and Rwagize Sabina, 37. All suspects hail from Musezero village Nyundo parish, Nyundo Sub County and are in police custody.

The deceased’s body was taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

Similarly, a woman in Rubanda district has been murdered by mob allegedly over witchcraft.

The deceased identified as Kyomukama Sarafina, 52 was business woman of Kiyebe cell, Kiyebe parish, Ruhija Sub County in Rubanda district.

Preliminary investigations indicate that she was mobbed on Thursday 31/10/19 at around 08:00 am at her rental house at Kiyebe trading Centre.

It’s alleged that the deceased was accused to have bewitched her biological brother John Kamuhanda recently. Kamuhanda died a mysteriously.

It’s also alleged that the locals had a planning meeting on Wednesday evening and after which they went and accomplished their ‘mobbing’ mission unnoticed.

Maate told Watchdog Uganda that Rubanda police was was notified and rushed to the scene but found she was already dead. No information into the death has been gathered, or suspect arrested.

This case has been reported at Rubanda police under file number SD 12/31/10/2019.
