Uganda Police Force has vowed to hunt down whoever was involved in an attack on one of their own, Assistant Superintendent of Police Joshua Tusingweire.
On Saturday morning while jogging in Mutungo, Nakawa division, Tusingweire, the officer-in-charge of investigations at Kampala Central Police Station was attacked by thugs who robbed him after beating him to pulp.
Speaking to this website on Monday, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Tusingweire was attacked from behind and was hit violently leading to injuries on head. All his belongings such as his phones and power bank were then taken.
“He was attacked from behind and in the motion of falling, he fell on his face which led to injuries on his face too,” he said.
However, Police vowed that the moment Tusingweire recovers and is able to talk, investigations will commence.
“We have hope that Tusingweire’s condition will improve after getting the necessary medication for the injuries he sustained. Whoever is behind this attack will be dealt with the moment he starts talking to tell us how it transpired and where,” said Owoyesigyire.
Andrew Kayongo, a resident of Mutungo said thuggery in most of Kampala suburbs has increased although many interventions such as CCTV cameras and Local Defence Units have been put in place.
“We have many groups of young boys here who are violent. Almost every week in Mutungo someone is killed. A few months ago, the Nakawa division Mayor Ronald Balimwezo was also attacked and beaten severely. If such people who have security can be attacked then how about the common man?” he asked.
Oweyesigyire also added that incidents of thugs attacking security officers have not been so common in past. However in recent days, such incidents have begun to happen concurrently.
According to Oweyesigyire, a few weeks ago, ASP Dennis Kasibante was also attacked by five robbers at his home in Nansana Municipality and in the fight to save the lives of his family he shot two of them dead.
