Sinohydro Corporation will be elevating the military hospital in Masindi from the Health center 4 to a fully fledged hospital that will benefit the people of Bunyoro sub region.

The ground breaking ceremony took place on Friday 11th October 2019 at the Masindi Artillery barrack, presided over by the Chief of Defense Forces Gen. David Muhoozi.

The project will take eight months to complete. Work will be done in partnership with the UPDF engineering brigade. The project will involve construction of laboratory, nurses and Doctors quarters, and a theatre.

Mr Deng Changyi, the project manager of Sinohydro Corporation, the contractors of Karuma dam said the military hospital will cost 1.5 million US dollars.

Changyi said his company under its Community relations program, is committed to constructing one military hospital, one civilian hospital and one Primary school at a total cost of US $4.5 million.

UEGCL CEO Eng. Harrison Mutikanga expressed optimism that the hospital project will be implemented expeditiously and commissioned on time within prescribed time frame.

The Guest of honour at the ceremony Gen. David Muhoozi welcomed the initiative saying the hospital will go along way in addressing the health problems in the Bunyoro sub region. Gen. Muhoozi hailed what he described as a vibrant relationship between the people’s republic of China and Uganda adding that Sinohydro’s good gestures are testimony to that relationship.

The UPDF Chief of Medical Services Maj. Gen. Ambrose Musinguzi said the hospital will also act as a mini referral hospital for the UPDF 4th division. He said 70 percent of the beneficiaries of the hospital will be the civilian population.

The project will be jointly supervised by UEGCL and the UPDF.
