Three people were kidnapped on Tuesday morning by unidentified gunmen and taken to Democratic Republic of Congo.

The victims are Twinamasiko Ambrose, 27, Twinomujuni Eldard, 31and  Niwagaba  Jacob,12.

The three were kidanapped around  1:40 am at  kyabuyorwa cell, Northern ward, Butogota town council in Kanungu district while travelling on motorcycle registration number  UEX 355L from kanyantorogo-Butogota-Bwindi where  four armed men with two smg Guns ,spear, panga and  trapped the victims using a rope across the road barrier.

However later  Niwagaba managed to escape from  them and took off.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, says the gunmen trapped the victims using a rope they had run across the road. Maate says  Niwagaba  managed to flee from the gunmen unhurt but the two are still  trapped.

Maate adds that kidnappers were putting on civilian attire and had masks on their faces as they spoke Swahili and Rukiga.

After crossing into DR Congo, they shot three bullets which attracted police to rush at the scene and discovered  motorcycle reg no UEX 355L Bajaji boxer
at the scene and the case  has been registered at Kanungu police station  under CRB 504 /2019.

Rampant cases of kidnaps by suspected Congolese gunmen have left Kanungu residents in fear.

During his recent Kigezi tour, President Yoweri Museveni told residents neighboring the Uganda-DRC border that the governments of both countries had successfully cracked down on criminals involved in kidnaps.
