The ladies’ club is in search of over Shs40million to aid them in their preparation and participation for the championships due Saturday March 16, in Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Last season, Nkumba won both the National club Volleyball championship and the Aziz Damani national league title to gain qualification to represent Uganda in the African premier competition in the ladies’ category with Nemostars and UCU representing for the men’s category.
The money is meant to facilitate the team in transport and welfare during the 10-day championships before the event climaxes on March 25.
Nkumba were scheduled to travel on Thursday, March 14, for the tournament but if they fail, It implies that Uganda will not have a female team representative after Ndejje the other representatives also pulled out of participation because they could not facilitate the trip.
Tonny Lakonny, head coach of Nkumba said that they have a budget of Shs75 million but have so far raised only Shs35 million, after also organizing a fund raising tournament at the MTN indoor Arena where they played against UCU doves and KAVC.
Lakonny also confirmed that if they fail to raise the full amount budgeted for, they will have to travel with only six players with hope that none of them gets injured because they wouldn’t have any replacement.
This will be the fourth time Nkumba represents the country in this championships. Last season they emerged ninth overall out of the 21 teams that participated.
