President Museveni has encouraged Ugandans to believe in themselves, open their eyes and stop crying for jobs.
The President, who was commissioning six factories in Namanve Industrial Park, also lauded Asian investors for choosing to invest in Uganda.
“You should stop crying that you don’t have jobs look and get what to do,” he said on Thursday.
He singled out the chairman of Steel and Tube industry, Joseph Yiga for ‘showing Ugandans that it’s not only Asians that can do big things.’
“Even Ugandans can do more if they stop sleeping,” he advised.
“With these factories, new jobs have been created and this will help to boost the economy.
Among the newly launched industries is the Orion Transformers and Electrics, an outfit that assembles electric transformers and repairs transformers. Here, the President commissioned 25000kva transformers.
Also opened were the Toyota Uganda’s new headquarters and Interior Technologies – a furniture factory.
Five trucks carrying steel products to Rwanda, Kenya and South Sudan were also flagged off to signify the opening of the new Steel and Tube Industries.
Others are Alfasan Uganda, a leading manufacturer of veterinary pharmaceuticals and other animal health products for Farmers in Uganda and Africa as well as Luka Plastics.
There are now over 35 industries in  Namanve Industrial Park employing over 3000 staff; the new Steel and Tube Industry accounts for about 1,100 of those.
