Hospitality and hotel management students at Victoria University will have an opportunity to receive practical training with the respected Speke Group of Hotels during their three year of study.
The deal signed this week at Speke Apartments on Wampewo Avenue, is billed as a step to strengthen the new crop of staff and entrepreneurs in Uganda’s hospitality industry.
Tourism website www/.tourismuganda.org quoted Victoria University vice chancellor, Dr Krishna N. Sharma saying that students of Bachelors of Tourism and Hotel Management will learn from the best in the game of hospitality and tourism industry, ahead of their graduation in order to be prepared for a competitive career in their fields of study.
The partnership will among others offer internship placements from where the students will gain practical experience.
Speke Group of Hotels comprises Speke Resort Munyonyo, Common Wealth Resort, Kabira Country Club, Speke Hotel, Forest Cottages, Dolphin Suites, Tagore Apartments, Speke Apartments, Kitante Apartments and Bukoto Heights Apartments.
Mr Anthony Chege, the General Manager Kampala Serena Hotel noted that the service industry was not any different from a marriage. He emphasized the need for integrity and called for Managers who are servants.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by among others; the Chancellor Victoria University Prof Aliker Martin, Dr. Matovu Byatike – Chairman University Council, Naiya & Rajiv Ruparelia, Sheena & Jay Sakaria, Mr Anthony Chege, the General Manager Kampala Serena Hotel and Stephen Asiimwe, the Chief Executive Officer at Uganda Tourism Board.
