President Yoweri Museveni together with Mr. Wang Yang of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, will on Friday 15, 2018 commission the Kampala-Entebbe Express Highway.
The 49.5 kilometres highway will help to de-congest and enhance the trade movement in the central business district and it has two sections starting from Busega on northern bypass to the existing Kampala- Entebbe road at Mpala, and a 12. 6km section commencing from Kajjansi interchanging to Munyonyo.
The road project that commenced on November 19th, 2012, has cost the government of Uganda (and Exim bank of China) a revised contract price of approximately USD400m.
Who is Wang Yang?
Wang is the Chairman of CPPCC.
He was born in March 1955 in Suzhou of east China’s Anhui Province. He began his first job in June 1972 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in August 1975.
He received a university education at the Central Party School, and holds a Master of Engineering degree.
Wang had worked as worker, teacher and Party and government officials in Anhui until 1999, and later held Party and government posts in central and local organs, such as Party chiefs of Chongqing Municipality and Guangdong Province, and deputy secretary-general of State Council.
At the first plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee last October, Wang was elected member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
