KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi is positive his team can defend the league title this season but believes the title chase will go down to the wire.

The gaffer spoke after the 1-1 stalemate between KCCA FC and Mbarara City and was hopeful that the team has all that it takes to win the title this season and was happy with the top-class responsibility the players exhibited on the day.

Muzamir Mutyaba opened the score for KCCA FC from the penalty spot on seven minutes after the midfielder was fouled but the visitors drew the tie level four minutes into the second stanza.

“I am happy with the way my players played but am disappointed by the result, its not what we expected but am happy my players gave their all. We are playing a league that has about four title contenders and we know we have to win our games to defend the title. Today’s result did not go our way but we need to keep going in the next games coming up,” said Mutebi.

KCCA FC had a string of chances not buried the closest being Nsibambi’s effort in the opening stanza that was cleared off the line after the visitors’ custodian seemed beaten.

Mutyaba, Okello and Poloto trio troubled the visitors as the three combined well to link up Nsibambi and also orchestrated a series of attacks throughout the game.

Patrick Kaddu, Jackson Nunda and teenager Steven Sserwadda were introduced in the second stanza for Paul Mucureezi, Allan Okello and Derrick Nsibambi respectively.

Cameo Jackson Nunda had his goal controversially  disallowed in the 67th minute when he clearly was onside leaving the majority surprised about the referees’ call.

One all is how it ended, the Champions picking up a vital point at home, and making 40 points on the league table.

KCCA FC host UPDF FC next in the league on 11th April at StarTimes stadium, a game that the Champions will keenly be looking at to boost their title defense hopes.
