Health Ministry awards scholarships worth shs1.9b to 184 students

The Ministry of Health has awarded scholarships to 184 students in 13 institutions.

According to the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine, the scholarships have been offered under Reproductive Maternal and Child Health Services Improvement Project which is being funded by Global Financing Facility, The World Bank and Swedish Government.

Dr. Atwine urged the beneficiaries to exhibit ethics and excellence in their studies and onward work in the health sector.

“Give up ‘kwara-kwara syndrome. It is a syndrome that many of you have developed- whereby you work without perfection, value or authenticity. Give up the syndrome and serve well with perfection” Atwine stressed.

She advised the students to serve the public diligently and develop the culture of ethics in their work.

The scholarships have been awarded in disciplines of Master of Medicine -in Anesthesia,Obstetrics/Gynecology, General Surgery, Master of Public Health in Nutrition, Bachelor of Bio-Medical Engineering, Bachelor of Anesthesia, Diploma in Anesthesia, Diploma in Clinical Nursing ,Diploma in Paeditric Nursing, and Certificate in Medical Theater Techniques

The scholarships will be offered in the following institutions; Makerere University ,Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Busitema University, Fort Portal School of Clinical Officers ,Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences- Mulago,Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mbale School of Clinical Officers ,Gulu School of Clinical Officers, Ishaka Adventist Hospital Lab Training School, Kagando School of Medical Laboratory, St.Joseph’s Hospital Kitovu, Lubaga Hospital Health Training School and Lacor Theatre Assistant Training School

They will be awarded at certificate, Diploma, Bachelors and Post graduate level. Over the duration of the studies, the Ministry will spend Ushs. 1,930,000,000.
