MP Zaake: returning home, not healed but promising to continue Tojikwatako fight

By our reporter

Mityana Municipality youthful Member of Parliament has announced that he will be returning home on Friday. The journey from United States where Francis Zaake was undergoing treatment in Minnesota starts on Thursday and will be in Kampala on Friday.

Hill Water

“This Friday 1st December 2017 I’ll be finally home!” said Zaake on his Facebook page, with a photograph wearing a bandage on his head.

Zaake alongside Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze flew out of the country for further treatment after being battered by yet to be known security personnel at the Uganda Parliament, following the September standoff in the House, pitting MPs opposed to lifting age limits in the constitution against the ruling party. When the Speaker of the House Rebecca Kadaga suspended MPs she accused of flaunting rules of procedure, MPs refused to leave the chamber, forcing pre-arranged security to come in.

The security intervention resulted in a violent confrontation between MPs and security officials, with provided political drama in Uganda and to the rest of the world.

Zaake was allegedly punched by Gen Katumba Wamala, state minister for works and former chief of defence forces, after he failed to listen to his advice to stop throwing House furniture to soldiers who were dragging out suspended MPs. It is during this process that Zaake was further injured, as well as Ms Nambooze whose back was injured and was only fixed with a metal in India.

Zaake, says in his facebook message that, “I will come back to begin from where I stopped, I will come back more prepared to protect our constitution.”
