Bees have disrupted a rally of Kenya’s ruling Jubilee Party in a town 36km south-east of Nairobi, reports the privately owned Standard newspaper.
According to the report, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s supporters were forced to take cover when a swarm of bees attacked. However, according to the newspaper, the chaos subsided after prayers by Jubilee politician Peter Mwakio.
Politicians at the event reportedly blamed Satan for the attack at the rally in Wundanyi town. The rally was held to garner support for Kenyatta ahead of a crunch election re-run.
This was not the first time that bees had attacked unsuspecting supporters.
According to reports “angry” bees caused havoc outside the Kenyan Supreme Court where the full judgment of the recently annulled polls was being delivered last month, leaving a disabled man badly stung.
A video clip that was widely circulated on social media showed the bees attacking police and protesters.
The bees’ hive reportedly had been disturbed by protesters.
The country’s Supreme Court annulled President Kenyatta’s victory in the August 8 election, saying there were irregularities and illegalities.
The court made its decision in response to opposition leader Raila Odinga’s petition challenging the official results that Kenyatta won with 54% of the vote.
The electoral commission has set October 26 as the date for a fresh election.
