Following last week’s incidents in which state minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda and MPs Judith Nabakooba (Mityana Woman) and James Kakooza (Kabula) were attacked by locals over their support for the lifting of the presidential age limits, government has beefed up security of at least 15 MPs seen to be at risk.

The MPs in question are part of the main architects of the age limit removal bill.

Among them is Simeo Nsubuga (Kassanda South), James Kakooza (Kabula), Raphael Magyezi (Igara West), Arinatwe Rwakajara (Workers), Peter Ogwang (Usuk) and Arua Municipality’s Ibrahim Abiriga.

According to the Observer newspaper, each of these MPs has been given five heavily armed counter Terrorism Police guards. Two guards are stationed at their Kampala homes, two at their constituency homes plus one close guard.

“If you consider what happened to me in Mubende and what happened to Kiwanda and Nabakooba in Mityana, it is only proper that our security is improved,”said Nsubuga.

The MPs have also been advised to excuse themselves from events where they have no control or expect a big presence of opposition supporters.
