The widow of assassinated Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi managed to go all the way to the place of her husband’s final resting place. Few expected her to go down to Lwengo given her situation as she is only hours away from labour.
And when she picked the microphone to speak about her husband before he was buried on Tuesday at Kitwekyanjovu village in Kyazanga, Lwengo District, Annet Kaweesi said very few words, but, very powerful words.
Her words show a woman concerned about raising the children who were so much loved their father, who was gunned down a few meters away from his home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.
“I won’t have answers for my children in future,” Annet said at the farewell ceremony of her late husband.
The couple who have been together for 10 years have four children, and one unborn, who will never get a chance to see its father.
She said, “I know in future I am going to be asked so many questions. I know in a few days they are going to ask me, mummy can I talk to daddy, and I do not know what I am going to tell them.”
Annet described Kaweesi as a very good father and a good man.
She said, Kaweesi is “irreplaceable”.
Below is Annet’s full speech:
“Thank you for coming to celebrate with us the life of Andrew. I thank the government of Uganda, and you all for the support. You have given us strength. You have showed us that there is light at the end of the tunnel. He has left a very big gap in the family. No one can replace. I request for your support in anyway, to make us strong. I know in future I am going to be asked so many questions. I know in a few days they are going to ask me, mummy can I talk to daddy, and I do not know what I am going to tell them. May the soul of Andrew, rest in eternal peace.”
