Buoyed by the victory after Masaka High Court dismissed the application by his challenger Patrick Nkalubo, Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Sekikubo dared Foreign affairs minister Sam Kuteesa to come out and challenge him anywhere in a free and fair election.
Sekikubo holds that he has nothing against Nkalubo, who was ordered by court to pay costs for the case. However, he said it is Mr Kuteesa who is fighting him using other people.
“Kuteesa should stop hiding behind people. Nkalubo has no problem with me, and I have no problem with him, however, it is Kuteesa who is fighting me,” said Sekikubo who admits he had gone quiet before he was sure of his parliament.
Sekikubo who confesses his undying love for NRM and President Museveni, now says he is going to start from where he stopped. However he blames Sam Kuteesa for his woes. The two MPs hail from Sembabule district. It is not clear why Sekikubo blames his woes on Kuteesa, however, every now and then, Sekikubo alleges the quite busy foreign minister was out to destroy him politically on the ground.
“I am ready to leave my seat if Kuteesa is ready to challenge me in either Lwemiyaga or Mawogola (Kuteesa’s consistuency).
Lwemiyaga MP race loser Patrick Nkalubo went to court saying he was unable to challenge Sekikubo’s election within the stipulated time because there was still a court order preventing the MP from being listed in the national gazette.
But Justice Flavia Neija told the applicant that he should blame himself for engaging in multiple applications during and failed to lodge his case in court in good time. She told him the time for challenging election petitions had past.
The Parliamentary Elections Act 2005 demands that an aggrieved loser in an election files a petition challenging the election of the winner within 30 days after gazetting the results.
Sekikubo is a renowned legislator in the ruling party who voices out his concerns irrespective of the party’s position. He was at one time term as one of the “rebel” NRM MPs who were thrown out of the party for failing to tread the party line.
