Predictions: Here are the artistes that will walk away with a HiPipo award

HiPipo Awards have always been criticized for their lack of transparency, being ‘fake’, and unfair, something that forced artistes like Bebe Cool and Ykee Benda to request organisers to stop nominating them.

With the eighth edition of awards happening on March 16 at Kampala Serena Hotel, Watchdog Uganda has broken down some of the artistes who would possibly walk away with an award, in some categories.

Artiste of the year.

This is regarded as the biggest and most competitive award in HiPipo. Little wonder artistes such as Vinka, Sheebah, King Saha, Fik Fameica, Eddy Kenzo, David Lutalo were nominated in this category. And even though all artistes have worked hard, the biggest competition is between Vinka, Sheebah and King Saha.

At least the three have released some good work for year 2018, but the likes of David Lutalo, Fik Fameica and Eddy Kenzo need to work hard next time.

Verdict: King Saha

Best Female Artiste.

In this category, the competition is between Vinka, Sheeba and Spice Diana. However, we predict that Vinka is the likely winner because she has been on form compared to the rest. Fille, Rema and Winnie Nwagi should work harder.

Best Male Artiste.

Of all artistes nominated in this category, King Saha will smile back home with this award. However, A Pass might not be way too far especially after his Didi Dada worked miracles last year. Geosteady, Fik Fameica, Eddy Kenzo, and David Lutalo didn’t work much for this.

Best Duo/ Group.

The giants in this category are B2C and Voltage Music. These two groups have been consistent and had good music in 2018, so we’ll just pray that the better one wins. New Chapter Africa, Brotherz Muzik and Sauti Ya Africa can only win if ‘politics’ is involved.

Best breakthrough.

2018 has seen a lot of good breakthrough artistes and it’s so challenging to determine who will take the award home. This category has seen artistes like Chosen Becky, Daddy Andre, Hanson Baliruno, Nina Roz and Kenneth Mugabi come out. Between Andre and Mugabi, we’ll put our money on the latter.

Must watch talent.

It will not be a surprise if John Blaq wins this award. Just months in the industry, he is topping all charts and has scared many aclaimed big artistes. Other good artistes in this category include Alvin Kizz, Cosign, Hit Nature, Vip Jemo, Pia Pounds.

Video of the year.

With no doubt, the best video of 2018 was Mid Night Drums.  This song featured artistes A Pass, Rouge, Fik Fameica. Other good videos in this category such as Turn up the Replay by Levixone, Sconto by Fik Fameica, Kampala by NCA would only compete if there was no Mid Night Drum to beat.

Song of the year.

This is also going to be a very tricky category, because most of the songs nominated were good and made rounds on social media. Some of the possible songs that can take this award include Didi Dada, Bankuza, Kyarenga, Biri Biri, Property, You and Me, Chips Na Ketchup, Turn the replay, Beera Nange.

Without ‘politics’ Kyarenga will take the day. With ‘politics’ Bankuza.
