Zenah Nakanwagi is just one of the few youthful poets in the country that has mastered the art of ‘bitter poetry.’
A bitter poem is ‘a balladry that expresses pain within’.
And since poetry is not an easy genre to execute, the 27-year-old has mastered the art of making poetry lovers envision her messages and feel the real meaning of her words, easily.
That’s what she achieves with her newly released Spit My Heart, a collection of 87 poems.
Spit My Heart is the fourth of Ms Nakanwagi’s collection of bitter poetry. She released her first collection of poems – A touch of Emotions – in 2012. Since then, she has never looked back, publishing two others –The Feelings and The Naked Mind before Spit my Heart.
In the book, she narrates the painful moments in her life.
She told Watchdog Uganda that she was inspired to do poetry after discovering that it was the only way she could properly express herself.
“I wanted to be listened to and poetry was the best way I could do so,” said Nakanwagi.
“I am very passionate about poetry, and I aspire to be among the best poets in the country.”
Spit my Heart is due for for launch on Friday, November 23, at Hotel Africana.
Gen. Mugisha Muntu, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president is expected to be guest of honour while the keynote speaker is George Williams Ssenkindu, the managing director Angelina Bookshops.
After the launch, the book will be available at Angelina Bookshops and all other book outlets across the country. A copy goes for only Shs20,000.

Zenah Nakanwagi was born in Rubaare, Ntungamo District to the late Ramathan Muwonge and Turanzeomwe Joy Mutesi.
She attended Rubaare Central for her primary education. She later joined Old Kampala Senior Secondary School, Sumayya Girls High School for her O’ level and Naalya SS, Namugongo for her A’ Level.
Nakanwagi holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Makerere University.
Currently, she is the Brand Manager for Baba Media Group and she is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Nyonyozi Events, a company that deals in decorations and ushering.
