URA seizes smuggled electronic goods, traders face jail

Uganda Revenue Authority enforcement team has seized electronic goods in Mbale that have been smuggled from Kenya via Malaba on Friday.

Mr Doris Akol, executive director URA said that people smuggling goods are causing a lot of losses to the country.

“We have seized 1978 memory cards, 760 phone batteries, 40 DVD players, 24 chargers and 14 Mobile phones which have been smuggled using two motorbikes,” Akol said.

Akol added that URA is still working hard on arresting smugglers and charging them for tax evasion which is a serious crime in Uganda.
