Tenants of Premium House and Nana House in the city centre are striking over rapid increase of rent dues of the shops on these two arcades by the owners.
The traders have closed the shops demanding for an emergency meeting with the landlord to clear out this issue about the rampant rise of rent dues every month also demanding them to pay in dollars.
“We were paying shs3 million, now they are demanding us to pay shs3.5 million yet in dollar which is not fair to us because some of us took loans from the bank and we haven’t finished paying the debt.” One of the tenants cried out.
The Arcades manager said that the tenants don’t have a council that can help them to fight and whoever is not willing to cooperate should leave the building.
This is not the first time for tenants to strike over rent increase in Kampala.
