Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has warned Christians against taking small offertories and tithe such as bitter berries, dodo, and sugar cane before the Temple of God.
The Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister made the remarks on Sunday during the fundraising drive for the construction of class room blocks at St Benedict Secondary School, Rutunguru in Kajara County, Ntungamo Municipality.
He had been invited by Timuzigu Michael Kamugisha, the area MP.
According to Otafiire, such offertory, brought by people who have failed to work hard, cannot help in building a strong church.
He also told parents to work hard for their children adding that they did not apply to be produced.
This he said can be done if they embrace income generating projects such as operation wealth creation (OPW) and four model acre system of farming such that they can raise money for sustainable wealth.
Otafiire, who contributed Shs3million towards the school’s construction, appealed to Ugandans to continue supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government if unity and peace are to be maintained across the country.
“The reason why the NRM leaders have been moving across the country in support of president Museveni’s sole presidential candidature is because they know how Uganda was in the past years,” he said.
Timuzigu thanked parents for the zeal and commitment towards supporting government efforts to uplift education standards appealing them not to get weary.
He contributed 100 bags of cement and lorry to ferry all construction materials.
The Ntungamo district chairperson Dennis Singahache hailed the Catholic Church for the work done towards starting up schools laid on a firm foundation.
During the Holy Mass led by the Kagamba Catholic parish priest Rev Fr Alphonse Mukundane asked children to be determined and concentrate on their studies for a bright future.
The St Benedict Secondary School Rutunguru is a Catholic’s church founded school having started in 2017.
Over Shs28m was raised towards the class room blocks.
