The Kampala Innovation Week (KIW) returns bigger and better for the third edition. KIW aims at gathering Uganda’s entire innovation community under one roof.

Under its theme ‘Showcase, Discover and Engage’ this year’s edition will take place between October 16 – 19 at Kololo Independence Grounds, and will bring together innovators, entrepreneurs, investors and corporate firms from all around, to get inspired, share and learn new things in the business world.

KIW will feature over 10 prominent hubs which will include, Design Hub Kampala, Innovation Village, Outbox, Tribe Kampala, Shona among others, who have a joint aim of assembling key players in the startup Ecosystem to raise their profits.

The startup Ecosystem basically involves innovators and entrepreneurs who venture in various sectors like technology, health and science, art and craft, Agri-business, Finance, and Energy among others.

According to Startup Uganda, the organizers of KIW, their major focus at this event is to support the growth of the startup ecosystem by maximizing it’s exploration to international investment, and partnership with global audiences.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Richard Zulu, the Chairperson of Startup Uganda said the innovation week will provide visibility to entrepreneurs and also attract global partnership, to build the Startup ecosystem possible and its benefits immense.

“KIW has provided a platform for all ecosystem enablers to start out on a long journey to build out the capital, knowledge, network and infrastructure that is required for our startups to succeed, we believe that we can achieve more together,” he said.

He also noted that KIW will provide a conducive space for entrepreneurs to display their latest innovations from startup businesses, private sectors players and development partners.

“There will be a chance to discuss about how to take Uganda’s Innovation and startup ecosystem to the next level, find potential partners, customers, investors, and engage with various thought leaders on how to take both your business and the Uganda startup Ecosystem to the next level,” he noted.

Maxwell Otim, the Deputy Executive Secretary at Uganda National Council for Science and Technology, noted that through KIW, the government is looking forward to spot promising innovations and also work closely with private sectors.

“Government is currently aiming at addressing the issue of unemployment, and we believe that jobs can are created through these innovations, so we are currently planning to work closely with the private sector to support young innovators,” he said.

This event is supported by United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and other partners include Jumia Uganda, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, GSMA, international Trade Centre, Design Hub Kampala among others.
