Arrested Rwandans were a security threat – Army

A source within security has said church goers arrested a joint operation between the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Police this week were a ‘security threat.’

About 40 men and women were arrested from a church with a membership of only Rwandan citizens.

“Most of the people we arrested were Rwandans but they had Ugandan National identification cards which were found to be fake,” the source told Daily Monitor.

The source did not elaborate the nature of threat posed by the suspects.

Army spokesman Richard Karemire also declined to divulge details of the arrests.
“This is an ongoing operation, I cannot give details right now because it will jeopardize the operation,” Brig Karemire is quoted by the local daily.

The latest development is bound to flare the already deeply hostile relations between Rwanda and Uganda.

Kigali has in the past accused Uganda of abducting its citizens and supporting rebels bent on overthrowing the government. Also allegations of espionage, political assassinations and meddling against each other have been traded in the past.

Rwanda, so quick at issuing statements about ‘abducted’ of incarcerated citizens is still quiet on this one.
