Ssemujju tells Chameleon there is no money in politics, Democratic Party

The Opposition Chief Whip, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has told musician Joseph Mayanja that there is no money in politics.

Nganda, also spokesperson, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) told this website on Thursday that he is still in the dark about why Mayanja, commonly known as Jose Chameleon, joined opposition Democratic Party (DP) this week yet in past he has in the past been a Museveni die hard.

“I don’t understand what Chameleon’s mission is to join DP. When I read his comments in newspapers this morning, he said he that had gone to work with Museveni to make money like any other supplier – those who print posters or T-shirts. I only hope he has not come to make money in DP,” said Ssemujju.

On Wednesday at Sharing Hall Nsambya, Chameleon was initiated into DP. He was welcomed by party president Norbert Mao, who handed him a DP card. Mao encouraged him to serve Ugandans and awarded him a post of National Chief mobiliser of the party.

However, other political players, especially in FDC, have cautioned him to go slow because politics is not a money making tool.

“In Uganda today we have two categories of opposition; those who want to just be in power and those who want to kick out Museveni,” Ssemujju said, adding that Chameleon doesn’t fit in any.

“I’m not one of those who will be fooled to believe that Chameleon has come to join hands to end Museveni’s administration. Because DP recruited him in order to attract Bobi Wine since they had wanted to recruit Bobi first but they failed,” he added.

Harold Kaija, the FDC deputy Secretary general said Chameleon is ‘just a joke whose intentions are illusions.’

“I see Chameleon as a political joker. Probably he thinks to join DP it will help him to fight Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago since the DP leadership is also against Lukwago,” said Kaija.

Kaija also blamed Mao and the entire DP leadership for undermining internal democracy and procedure within the party to front Chameleon without any censorship.
