Gulu District Speaker John Okwonga is being accused of sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl.
It is alleged that Okwonga defiled the minor from his house in the month of March.
The case was reported on May 30, 2019 under file number CRB762/2019 at Gulu Central Police Station by the relative of the victim.
According to the relative, Okwonga forcefully had sex with the minor at a time she was sent by her mother to pick utensils from the suspect’s house located within Laroo division in the morning and threatened the girl never to reveal on ground that it may result to death of human beings.
“When the girl was sent to collect plates from Okwonga’s house, Okwonga then sent her to go and check in the bedroom but then eventually followed her and had sexual intercourse with her according to the girl,” the relative told PML Daily, a local news website.
“The minor has been confirmed with a two-month pregnancy allegedly belonging to Okwonga.”
Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema said when the case was reported; the district speaker was briefly detained and released shortly after recording a statement.
“The case has been referred to the Resident State Attorney to determine the next course of action,” said Okema.
