President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander-In-Chief has cleared army Generals David Tinyefunza and Ivan Koreta to retire in July next year, Watchdog has learnt.
Gen. Tinyefuza’s retirement comes after a long quest to leave the institution he has served for close to four decades. The outspoken General, who changed his name from Tinyefuza to Sejusa, literary ‘I do not regret’ first tendered in his resignation letter in 1996 after falling out with the army authorities due to corruption. His plea then was never granted.
He then sued the government for refusing to grant him his retirement rights and retain him in army beyond his will. Sejusa won this case in the High Court. However, the state appealed in Court of Appeal which over turned the judgement of the High Court.
Sejusa then fled Uganda to UK in May 2013 due to a controversial letter he wrote demanding an investigation into an alleged assassination plot against top army officials who were against the presidential ambitions by First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
In December 2014, he returned and asked for retirement from the army. Again this was not granted since, according to sources close to President Museveni, the army wanted to avoid Gen. Sejusa from ‘going the Gen Mugisha Muntu’ way. Gen. Muntu is a former army commander turned government critic.
The bush war general in 2016 secured a High court affirmation for him to be retired from the army because he was not serving soldier.
In 2016 he was accused in General Court martial over two offences of involving in political activities, insubordinate behavior, and two counts of conduct prejudicial to good order, and discipline expected from an army officer. Which he later acquitted and set free.
Gen Sejusa served as Coordinator of intelligence services in army.
Others to be retired include chairman of National Enterprise Corporation Lt. Gen. Joram Mugume, Maj Gen Nathan Mugisha , Maj Gen Samuel Turyagyenda, 12 officers at the rank of Brigadier and 10 Colonels.
Gen. Sejusa will join a list of retired generals in Uganda People’s Defense Force who include; Gen. Yoweri Museveni (President), Major General Kahinda Otafiire, Major General Benon Biraaro, Major Gen Matayo Kyaligonza, Major Gen Jim Muhwezi, Lieutenant General Henry Tumukunde, General Salim Saleh and Major General Mugisha Muntu (Former army commander)
